Burlington International Airport
Burlington International Airport (IATA: BTV, ICAO: KBTV, FAA LID: BTV) is a
public airport in South Burlington, Vermont. The airport is three miles (5 km)
east of the central business district of Burlington, Vermont's largest city. BTV
is owned by the City of Burlington.
Service area
Burlington International Airport serves the Burlington metropolitan area, which
contained over 206,000 residents as of 2006 U.S. Census estimates. Due to the
relatively small size of the market, airlines mostly fly regional airliners on
their Burlington routes. A few airlines fly larger jets, such as the Boeing 737
and planes from the Airbus A320 family, to BTV; JetBlue and United Airlines are
two such carriers.
Nevertheless, BTV has flights to many major airline hubs in the East and
Midwest, including New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington, Chicago,
Cincinnati, Cleveland, Detroit, and Atlanta.
Passenger traffic
BTV enplanes and deplanes almost 700,000 passengers annually. Burlington
International represents the country's second fastest growing airport with
annual growth from 2004 to 2005 of almost nine percent.
Facilities and aircraft
Burlington International Airport covers an area of 942 acres (381 ha) which
contains two asphalt paved runways: 15/33 measuring 8,320 x 150 ft. (2,536 x 46
m) and 1/19 measuring 3,611 x 75 ft. (1,101 x 23 m).
For the 12-month period ending June 30, 2005, the airport had 111,454 aircraft
operations, an average of 305 per day: 52% general aviation, 29% air taxi, 13%
military and 6% scheduled commercial. There are 84 aircraft based at this
airport: 55% single engine, 5% multi-engine, 7% jet aircraft and 33% military.

providing service for much of northern Vermont. UPS uses Wiggins Airways, based
out of Manchester, NH, to ferry packages Burlington on a Beechcraft 99
turboprop. FedEx flies a triangular route from Burlington, landing first at
Syracuse Hancock Int'l to accept packages before landing at FedEx's Newark sort
facility. Their morning return flight returns on the same path and a 727-200 is
used for the service. DHL flies a DC-9 to Albany, before continuing on to
Airborne Airpark (KLHN) and repeats the route returning.
